In the last few weeks it seems that Ferland's role has changed. Rather than be the crash and bang guy that digs in the corners and the net presence he seems to have become the high cover guy in the Gulutzan system. It would appear that Monahan is not as effective fore-checker as Ferland and Ferland is not as effective a sniper as Monahan. First line production is dependent on these two guys returning to the roles that are better suited to their abilities.

Your not kidding. With the Sharks, Ducks and Kings all riding 3 game win streaks and getting hot, we absolutely can not rely on the standings to help us in any way. Dig in now and get a win streak going or we can forget about the playoffs.

Those few late 3rd period collapses could definitely come back to bite them in the a$$!

That first Vegas game really sticks out to me just giving the two points away on a silver platter. It would be nice to see a solid effort and not blow a lead for once.

I agree they need Ferland leading the forcheck not sitting back. Also lets see Bennett and Tkachuk get more time together. Seems so simple!

Just for poops and giggles, given that we are facing the top team in the West tonight and there may not be much positive to talk about...

What would you put together if you were Treliving for Erik Karlsson? Would you go after him? How would you fit him under the cap in 2019 and beyond?

Proposed ground rules...

1) Trade has to be something Ottawa would accept. A penalty of one shot of Crown, Goose or Turkey for putting out a poop offer of players no GM is going to accept

2) Flames have to be able to fit him in their cap, knowing Tkachuk and Bennett are also up after next year, goaltending is a "?" and they still have Brouwer/Frolik on the books. Penalties akin to the above would apply if the cap makes no sense

3) NMC/NTC, for the purpose of this chat, we will assume COULD be waived. There is a counter argument to players not wanting to waive that clause, but let's operate in the territory of it at least being possible.

I'll wait for free agency for Erik Karlsson thank you very much. He'd fetch a kings ransom in players, prospects and picks. Plus he's a RHD.

Teams would be looking at 2 first rounders, their top prospect, and a top 2 middle aged defenceman just to start. And that would be on the guarantee of resigning him only. If P.K. gets 9 mil a season, you damn well know he will want 9 mil or more.

Love the player but shoot for free agency or you'd be cutting off your nose to spite yourself..

Fair enough.

Ottawa has seemed less focused on future potential in exchange in their public stance anyways, something to consider. Might be one significant roster piece and some futures... anyways, FA is the cheaper way to go in terms of capital being exchanged

There's pretty much nothing the Flames could put together that would be enough for Ottawa and give the Flames enough space to re-sign him.

The only way it would work is if the Flames decided that they're never going to win with Gaudreau as their best player and offered something like Gaudreau and Brodie.

Also I hear Ottawa wants to package Ryan with him and there's no way Burke has Ryan in a Flames uni!

Lomberg, Brouwer, and a 3rd for Karlsson.

Do I take my shot now?

What if Dougie were in there? If one were to view EK as a big upgrade?

Dougie
Valimaki
Dube
Pick?

Present value plus futures?

Just on another note, was at the Rockets game last night, Dube is going to surprise a lot of people. Guy is too good for junior and could be a good add if Kelowna falls early in the playoffs and Stockton is still playing.
Also watched Phillips last time he came through Ktown, serious talent, makes things happen all the time, plus he's developed a bit of an edgey, fiestyness, which was good to see.

I'd really hate it if the Flames gave away Dougie but that's probably something they'd consider.
